Youth accused of cellphone robbery granted bail

A 19-year-old vendor was on Tuesday granted bail, after pleading not guilty to a robbery charge.

It is alleged that on March 9, 2019, at the 32 minibus park, Leon Maloney robbed Akash Manroop of a cellphone valued $22,000.

Maloney pleaded not guilty to the charge, which was read to him by Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, of the city’s magistrates’ court.

Maloney, who appeared in court alone, was granted $15,000 bail and was told to return on March 25, 2019 for his next hearing.

Also making an appearance in Magistrate Isaacs-Marcus’ court on Tuesday, was 25-year-old Rawle Collins, who it was alleged stole a purse worth $500 and $340 in cash, on March 10, 2019, at High Street, Georgetown.

Collins, a plumber, pleaded not guilty to the charge, and was granted bail in the sum of $5,000, with no objections from police prosecutor Adduni Innis.

The accused was told to return to court on March 25, 2019 for his next hearing.
