Jagdeo says PR firm to get PPP message out in Washington

Confirming that the PPP has hired a US-based public relations firm to advance its political position in Washington DC, Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo yesterday said that the $34M price tag and the legal costs associated with the no-confidence case, were paid via donations from supporters locally and abroad.

Minister Hughes sues Stabroek News, Goolsarran

Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes has sued Guyana Publications Inc (GPI) and columnist Anand Goolsarran over statements  published in the April 15th edition of Stabroek News where it was stated that she was in breach of the Integrity Commission Act as a result of a contract which her company, Videomega was given by the Department of Energy (DoE).

Clarke, Allen hand TSC commanding win over GCC

Leg – spinner Akeem Clarke and batsman Devon Allen orchestrated a commanding 157-run win for the Transport Sports Club (TSC) over the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) while Sachin Singh and Alphius Bookie struck unbeaten half-centuries for the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) who defeated Bel Air Rubis by nine wickets in second round action of the GCA/American Youth Premier Cricket League Under-19 Cricket Competition.

Archer ignored for England WC squad

LONDON,  CMC – Highly-regarded Barbadian fast bowler, Jofra Archer, was yesterday ignored for England’s preliminary 15-man World Cup squad but has been named to face Ireland and Pakistan, leaving the 24-year-old still with an outside chance of turning out at the ICC showpiece starting next month.

Grade Six exams underway: The National Grade Six Assessment began yesterday and the Minister of Education, Nicolette Henry along with the Chief Education Officer  Marcel Hutson visited schools around Georgetown to encourage Grade Six students to do their best.

City, private sector to work on garbage strategy

Following a walk along several blocks of Regent Street on Tuesday, the City Administration and the Private Sector Commission (PSC) have agreed to cooperate on the development of a garbage strategy for individual businesses and to reach out to the Chinese Ambassador to better facilitate the integration of Chinese-run businesses.
