Rawle Lucas new Chairman of GPL

Cabinet at a recent meeting approved the appointment of boards for several government entities and accountant Rawle Lucas has been named Chairman of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL).

GPL had been without a board since the start of 2018. Businessman Robert Badal was its last chairman.

Director General of the Ministry of the Presidency, Joseph Harmon made the announcement of the new appointments on Thursday.

Harmon, who at the time was hosting a post cabinet press briefing said that for the next two years, Berkley Wickham will serve as Chairman and Mark Bender as Vice Chairman of the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board while the other members are Trevor Baird, Bernard Lord, Duane Griffith, Thomas Nestor and Anala Grant-Williams.

He said that the Value Added Tax (VAT) Appellate Tribunal will comprise Ronald Burch-Smith who was appointed Chairman, Pamela Briggs, Nizam Ali, John Seeram and Trevor Bowen. They will all serve for a period of two years.

At GPL, Lucas will be supported by Reggie Bhagwandin, Kirk Hollingsworth, Morsha Johnson-Francis, Gillian Pollard, Elena Trim, the Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Energy Agency, Komal Ramnauth and a representative from the Parliamentary Opposition.

Harmon informed too that cabinet approved the Occupational Safety and Health Joint Workplace Safety and Health Committee and Representatives Regulations 2019.

He told the media that cabinet directed that the regulations be laid in the National Assembly for consideration.
