Beacons etched their name on the coveted Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Bartica championship trophy, defeating Police 1-0 Sunday at the Bartica Community Centre tarmac.

The grand finale was decided by the burly Whitney Welcome in front of a large and partisan crowd in the 31st minute.

Welcome sparked wild celebrations on the playing area, spotting his effort into the right corner, to effectively seal the title in what was a very physical and bruising affair. It was a bridge too far once again for the lawmen, who lost their second final in three years. They had also lost to Rivers View in a previous final.

The victorious Beacons unit walked away with $400,000 and a trophy. They also earned the right to represent the zone at the National Championships in August while Police received $150,000 and a trophy.

In the semi-finals, Beacons brushed aside Walking Boys 3-0 while Police ruled against Mighty Ruler 1-0 on penalty kicks following a scoreless regulation and extra time interval.

In the third-place playoff, newcomer Walking Boys squeaked past Mighty Ruler 1-0 to pocket $100,000 and a trophy. Mighty Rulers collected $75,000 and the respective accolade.

Similarly, Goal-Raiders clinched the Guinness Plate Championships, batting past Rivers View 1-0 on penalty kicks, after regulation and extra time ended 0-0.

For their win, Goal-Raiders pocketed $60,000. In the earlier Guinness Plate semi-finals, Goal-Raiders and Rivers View downed Prison Officers and Potaro United 1-0 respectively.

The other major sponsor of the event was Colours Boutique. In attendance at the venue was Banks DIH Guinness Brand Executive, Lee Baptiste. The Georgetown leg of the tournament will commence next month.
