Jagdeo not opposed to Granger suggesting names for GECOM Chairman

The PPP has rejected the government’s interpretation of the June 18 ruling by the CCJ that President David Granger can also nominate some of the six persons to be considered as GECOM Chairman but it said that in an effort to find consensus Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo is amenable to the President suggesting names for his consideration.

The Private Sector Commission (PSC) yesterday urged government and the opposition to find common ground as they both prepare submissions for the Caribbean Court of Justice and it reiterated that business activity here has dropped following the December 21st, 2018 no-confidence motion against government.

Dear Editor, It is coming up to two weeks since the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) made its definitive rulings – James Patterson was an illegal Chairman of GECOM, the No-Confidence Motion of December 21, 2018 was valid, the government was resigned by the parliament as of that date (it was not an option), the elections were supposed to be held by March 21st, 2019 and, therefore, the government stands illegal today.
