UN photo contest seeks to promote youth in rural development

Interested persons between 18 and 35 years old are being invited to participate in a photo competition held by the United Nations (UN) International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) to highlight youth participation in rural development in Latin American and Caribbean countries.

The competition was launched on October 25th, under the theme “Youth and Rural Development to promote youth participation in rural development in Latin American and the Caribbean.” The closing date for entries is December 16th, 2019.

Contestants must be between 18 and 35 years of age and a national or resident in a Latin or Caribbean country.

According to a press release issued by IFAD, the images must depict young people engaged in activities in rural areas, with focus on innovative practices and solution. Winning entries will be selected based on originality, creativity and connection with the theme. Further, the press release stated that ten of the best entries will be selected and exhibited during the Rural Youth Innovation Award Ceremony, which will be held in June 2020 in Rome, Italy.

In addition to winning a trip to join the award ceremony, three winners will receive training in digital communications.

“Photographs must be sent to premiorural@ifad.org, accompanied by the image use authorisation signed and filled, a brief description of the photograph (5-10 lines), and the author’s contact information,” the release stated.

IFAD is an international financial institution and specialised agency of the United Nations, based in Rome, where the United Nations central mechanism for the food and agriculture sector is located.
