A boy who was severely beaten at the Mon Repos Primary School is recovering even as other medical complications have arisen and his mother is mulling the way forward.

Eight-year-old Richard Boodram was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital after his mother, Devika Persaud noticed him acting strangely when he returned home from school on November 1st.

When Stabroek News contacted Persaud yesterday, she noted that her son who had not been eating and was in pain is doing better. She noted that he is now eating and has not been in very much pain.

According to Persaud, they noticed that his eyes, which were swollen shut up to last Friday had started going down earlier this week. However, yesterday  morning his left eye began to swell again. The mother said that yesterday after they noticed that her son’s stomach was swollen an ultrasound was done and doctors related to them that his liver is swollen.

She stated that even as he recovered, he would have related to her and his grandmother what had happened. Boodram’s grandmother told Stabroek News that the child had told her subsequent to the attack that he blacked out and after he regained consciousness he noticed that the piece of wood which was used by his classmates to attack him, had a nail in it.

When asked if they were ever contacted by officials from the Ministry of Education, Persaud told Stabroek News that last Friday while they were in the hospital, about 11 persons came and stated that they were from the Ministry and that they would have to check with the doctor who was treating him and would subsequently return to see the child. However, they did not return.

The woman noted that she is not sure what she should do next.  Boodram’s grandmother said that she plans to visit the Ministry to find out what is being done.
