Golden Jaguars earn historic point against Jamaica

The Golden Jaguars gained their first ever point against heavyweight Jamaica, securing a 1-1 draw yesterday at the Catherine Hall Sports Complex, Montego Bay in their final group match of League B in the CONCACAF Nations League.

Emery Welshman scored for the visiting Guyanese in the 45th minute of what was the sixth ever meeting of the nations. 

Also Guyana became the only team in the group to score against the Jamaicans, who equalized in the form of Javon East in the 50th minute.

It was the second meeting of the teams in two months, with the previous encounter ending 4-0 in favour of the 45th ranked Jamaicans at the National Track and Field Centre, Leonora on September 9th.

Guyana, who are ranked 174th, featured an unchanged starting XI from the Aruba match which consisted of Quillan Roberts [GK], Matthew Briggs, Terrence Vancooten, Sam Cox, Kadell Daniels, Daniel Wilson, Clive Nobrega, Keanu Marsh-Brown, Trayon Bobb, Callum Harriott and Welshman.

With the result, Guyana finished second in the group and sealed a berth in the playoff round for Gold Cup which will be staged in March 2020. In the second match of the group, Antigua and Barbuda defeated 3-2.
