Guyana defeated the Windward Islands by 22 runs in Trinidad last night in a crucial fixture in the Colonial Medical Insurance Super50 Cup.

Guyana’s victory was largely due to a sterling 171-run opening partnership between Chanderpaul Hemraj who smashed 100 runs and Tagenarine Chanderpaul who scored 64. Raymon Reifer hit 52 and the in-form Chris Barnwell scored 38. For the Windwards, Ryan John took 4 for 56 off of seven overs.

When the Windwards batted, Kaveem Hodge almost single-handedly gave his side a chance, scoring 123 runs. He featured in a 146-run partnership with Alick Athanaze who made 63. But the effort was not enough and the Windwards fell short by 22 off their allotted overs.

Reifer, Ronsford Beaton and Gudakesh Motie took two wickets each.
