A number of young volleyball players will be hoping to catch the eyes of national selectors on Sunday when the Guyana Volleyball Federation (GVF) stages an Under-21 trials at the National Gymnasium.

The try-outs, set to be contested between players from Demerara and Berbice, are being staged to select a male and a female Under – 21 squad. The move is also geared to commence early preparations for a tour in French Guiana in February 2020.

Odile Broomes, GVF’s Chairman of the Technical Committee, responsible for training, trials and selection, made the revelation to Stabroek Sports on Monday.

“The GVF selection committee will select the players for the two teams,” she said adding that when that process is completed, “steps will be taken to have the teams commence training in preparation for the tournament in French Guiana,” she added.

Meanwhile, administrators in Demerara have taken steps to have their players in top shape for Sunday’s examinations by rolling out a one week training roster from Monday evening.

They are likely to face a stern challenge from their Berbician counterparts. However, the host will be ably led by Terrrence Groenhart, Kristoff Shepherd, Noelex Holder, Victor Rogers and Andre Jagnandan in the male category. Meanwhile, the multitalented Cherry-Ann Fraser along with Frankie David, Shamariya David and Cassie Junor will do the bulk of the work on the female side.
