A man who says by impersonating the police he was able to easily rob people is now awaiting sentencing for the crime.

Daquan Robinson, 21, was yesterday arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in Georgetown, where he was faced with four charges.

The first charge stated that on December 7th, 2019, at Church Street, Georgetown, while being armed with a gun, he robbed Keon Crandon of $600.

It was further alleged that on December 8th, 2019, at Merriman Mall, Bourda, while he was armed with a gun, he robbed Gary Hartman of a quantity of articles, valued at $43,000.

It was also alleged that on December 8th, 2019, at Orange Walk, Bourda, he stole a phone valued $5,000, which was the property of Desmond Daniels.

The last charge stated that on December 8th, 2019, at Orange Walk, Bourda, he had in his possession two iPhones, suspected to be stolen or unlawfully obtained.

Robinson admitted to robbing Hartman and denied the other charges against him. He told the court that he was hungry and so he decided to buy a fake gun and pretend to be a police officer as it made it easier for him to rob them.

The police prosecutor told the court that Hartman was in the mall walking with a haversack containing documents when he was approached by Robinson. The court heard that Robinson identified himself as a police officer but after Hartman asked him to produce his badge, he pointed a fake gun at the man and relieved him of his haversack.

In relation to the attack on Daniels, the court heard that Robinson had taken the man’s phone out of his pocket while he was asleep in a chair. He then made good his escape. This matter was also reported and a police on duty in the area saw Robinson. The court was also told that the officer was approached by Robinson, who told him “What you doing here? Get out of this area.” After being told that he was not supposed to be in the mall, the officer conducted a search on Robinson and found the stolen items. He then arrested Robinson.

After listening to the facts, the magistrate remanded Robinson to prison until December 30th, when he be sentenced for the charge he admitted to.
