MYO, New Amsterdam notch up wins in latest round of  Inter- Jamaat tournament

New Amsterdam registered two wins while the Muslim Youth Organisation (MYO) also secured success in the latest round of the MYO/Trophy Stall Inter-Jamaat 10 overs Softball Cricket Competition on Sunday last. 

 The first game of the day saw the host MYO defeating LBI B by 23 runs. MYO after winning the toss, posted 102 for four. The experienced Richard Latiff top scored with 38 while openers Safraz Esau (22) and Timore Mohamed (19) chipped in. LBI B in response, was limited to 79-7 with Latiff returning to grab three wickets to secure the win.

 Meanwhile, the second match of the day saw  the LBI B side slipping to their second loss of the day, going down to New Amsterdam by eight runs. New Amsterdam, batting first,  posted 95 – 8 from their allotted overs with Raymond Mohamed (27) and Zahir Moakan (23) being the main contributors. Gary Singh took two wickets for LBI B who in response were dismissed for 87 as Safraz Kassim (3-18), Bashir Kellawan (2-17) and Ricky Edoo (2-21) combined to rout the opposition. 

 The final game saw the Berbice side recording their second win of the day, this time against LBI `A’. 

LBI `A’ who won the toss and elected to bat, was dismissed for 59 runs in 9.1 overs with Mohamed Ali (16) being the only batsman to reach double figures. Bashir Kellawan, Safraz Kassim and Martin Singh picked up two wickets apiece for New Amsterdam who in reply, knocked off the runs in six overs with Jerome Khan making an unbeaten 27. 

 The competition continues over the weekend.
