Albion Cricket Club’s Kandasammy Surujnarine is confident his unit can dethrone Rose Hall Town Namilco Thunderbolts in Saturday’s final and lift the Berbice Cricket Board/Busta Champion-of-Champions title.

The first-division knockout 40 overs competition, which will culminate at the Area ‘H’ ground this weekend, has so far seen Thunderbolts earn a bye in the first round and beat Blairmont Blazers by eight wickets to book their spot in the semi-final.

At the venue for the final, Thunderbolts secured a four-wicket win over Tucber Park to move one step closer to their 14th title of the event.

Meanwhile, Albion drew a bye to the final by eliminating last year’s finalist Young Warriors Cricket Club by 102 runs. The former champions had also beaten West Berbice by 131 runs in the opening round.

Surujnarine, who has a top score of 95 posited that Albion has prepared well for the final and that he believes they have what it takes to bring it home.

“I think the most important area we need to improve on is the fielding, I think we were a bit reckless today with a couple of drop catches but I think the batting is clicking, so going into the final I think we are in good shape,” Surujnarine stated after their last win.

Looking at the two comprehensive victories, the opening batsman said: “These are morale boosting wins for us going into the final, John [Jonathan Foo] is back too so that is good for us going into the final.”  He noted that the preparation against Young Warriors seems to be enough but was wary of the bowling line up they have to face.

“I think the preparation is adequate, Young Warriors is a strong team and when you go to the final you get stiff bowling so I think it is very good preparation,” he said.

Despite the experienced campaigners in the side, Surujnarine credits the younger players such as Sarwan Chaitnarine and Gourav Ramesh for stepping up and taking the responsibility.

“I think the youngsters over the last two years have put in the work and are showing their worth now and since the bigger guys are traveling a lot taking on responsibility is what they have to do and they are doing well,” he indicated.
