Miner’s body found in South Rupununi shallow grave

The partially decomposed body of a 31-year-old miner was discovered buried in a shallow grave at Rice Creek, South Rupununi on Sunday, three days after he was allegedly killed, and a teenage suspect has since been arrested.

The dead man has been identified as Marcellus Reynolds, called ‘Ton,’ of Achiwuib, South Rupununi.

Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan, in a statement, yesterday confirmed the killing, which occurred around Thursday, December 5th, at Marudi Backdam, South Rupununi. He said the suspect, a 17-year-old male, was arrested and remained in police custody.

The release said Reynolds’ remains was discovered on December 8th.

While the circumstances surrounding Reynolds’ death were not clear, this newspaper was told that after the suspect was taken into custody, he led the police to the spot, where he allegedly buried the man’s remains. They have since been exhumed and arrangements are underway for an autopsy to be conducted as early as possible.
