Following a high level meeting yesterday, the Guyana Police Force has launched ‘Operation Safe Roads,’ which is to commence countrywide this morning.

Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan yesterday said that the operation was launched following an hours-long meeting which was held in the Commis-sioner’s Conference Room, Eve Leary by Commis-sioner of Police Leslie James and his administrative team.

In attendance were Traffic Chief Linden Isles and the Traffic Heads for the ten administrative regions.

During the meeting, Ramlakhan said Isles presented two PowerPoint presentations highlighting the traffic plans for 2020 and strategies to deal with the current traffic issues. A decision was made thereafter to launch the operation.

Operation Safe Roads begins at 6am this morning. The Guyana Police Force has faced continuing calls for action lately as a result of multiple fatal accidents in recent weeks despite an announced increase in police enforcement during the holiday season.
