Corentyne man charged over two unlicensed guns and ammo gets bail

A Corentyne man who was remanded to prison just over a week ago after being charged with having two unlicensed guns as well as ammunition for the guns in his possession, was granted bail when the matter was called again yesterday.

Michael Bascom, 51, of Corentyne was released on $300,000 bail when he appeared before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga.

The first charge alleged that Bascom on December 17th at Corentyne, Berbice, had in his possession one Ruger Newport long rifle and a hunting firearm without being the holder of a firearm licence in force at the time.

It was also alleged that Bascom on the same date, had in his possession twenty-six 30-30 ammunition and fifty-seven 22 long rifle ammunition without being the holder of a firearm licence in force at the time.

Bascom had pleaded not guilty to the charges when they were first read to him at the Whim Magistrate’s Court on December 20th.

He is expected to return to court on February 28th.
