Bachelor’s Adventure cyclist succumbs following New Year’s Day accident

A 22-year-old pedal cyclist who was struck down on New Year’s Day while attempting to cross the Coldingen Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning.

Dead is Rodwell Emanuel James, a resident of Lot 1315 Bachelor’s Adventure, ECD.

Reports are that the accident occurred around 8 am Tuesday after which James was picked up in an unconscious condition and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital.

He succumbed to his injuries around 2 am yesterday while receiving medical attention.

The driver who has been identified as a 28-year-old resident of Lusignan Pasture, ECD was also injured.

He was admitted at the said hospital and was discharged yesterday.

He is currently in police custody assisting with investigations.

Enquiries, the police said, disclosed that James was attempting to cross the Coldingen Railway Embankment from south to north on his bicycle when motor car PNN 7862 which was proceeding west along the southern carriageway collided with him.

The car came to a halt after crashing into a utility police, the police added.

An autopsy is scheduled to be conducted on James’ remains on Monday.
