John Seeram new Chairman of NIS

Government has announced new boards for several agencies in the financial sector including the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) and Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA).

Auditor John Seeram replaces Dr. Surendra Persaud at the head of the NIS Board. He is joined by Deputy Chairperson General Manager Holly Greaves, Pamela Biggs, Sattie Sasenarine and Mervyn Williams as well as unnamed representatives from the Private Sector, Trade Union Congress, the Consultative Association of Guyanese Industry (CAGI) and the Ministry of Social Protection.

Persaud, who has held the post since 2015, had recently clashed with government after he announced massive toll increases in his position as Chairman of the Berbice Bridge Company Inc.

Meanwhile Rawle Lucas has after three years been replaced by Leyland Lucas as chair of the GRA Board. He will be joined by Commissioner General Godfrey Statia, Bank of Guyana Governor Gobind Ganga Budget Office Director Sonya Roopnauth, Lennox Benjamin and Patsy Russell.

The Board of the National Industrial and Commercial Investments Limited (NICIL) will continue to be chaired by Maurice Odle with members Berkley Wickham, Denise DeSouza, Grantley Walrond, Oswald Barnes, Keith Cholmondeley and Rawle Lucas.

Additionally the members of the governing boards of Skeldon Energy Inc, the Bureau of Statistics and Privatisation Board were announced in the Gazette of January 5, 2019. 

Lloyd Rose will chair the Skeldon Energy Inc which is comprised of representatives from NICIL, GPL, the Trade Union Movement and the Regional Executive Officer of Region 6.

Meanwhile Keith Cholmondeley will chair the privatization board whose members include Ministers Dominic Gaskin and Jaipaul Sharma as well as Grantley Culbard, Jennifer Chapman and a representative of the Private Sector.

Finally the board of the Bureau of Statistics will be chaired by Fitz Mclean with Lennox Benjamin, Gobind Ganga, Evelyn Hamilton, Desmond Trotman and Vilas Gobin as members.
