The Police last night said that they had arrested a man who was wanted for questioning in relation to several offences including murder.

In a release, the police said the man who they identified by his alias, ‘Sharky’, of Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, was apprehended yesterday afternoon.

Prior to being apprehended, the suspect and another had committed a robbery on a wash bay operator at Lot 1 Conciliation Drive, Georgetown.

During the robbery, the men held the wash bay operator at gunpoint and carted off his jewellery and a sum of cash at gunpoint.

The men then escaped on their motorcycle. However, as they fled the scene, the wash bay operator chased behind them.

The man who was arrested, police said, discharged several rounds at the operator’s motor car. The bullets struck the car windshield.

Sometime after the chase, one of the suspects was apprehended and was found in possession of an unlicensed pistol with a spent ammunition. The motorcycle used in the commission of the crime has impounded, police stated while noting that efforts are being made to apprehend the second suspect.

Investigations are in progress.
