Venezuelan, Guyanese held in Cuyuni over ganja

An 18-year-old Venezuelan  and a Guyanese  were yesterday morning arrested by ranks on duty at the Waiamu Landing, Cuyuni River for the possession of narcotics and an illegal firearm.

Police last night said that the two males at around 9am, were seen acting in a suspicious manner when the ranks intercepted. The Venezuelan national, who is a miner, police said, was seen handing over a multi-coloured bag to an operator. At this point, the ranks confronted the men and a  search was carried out on the bag. During the search police unearthed a 45 calibre Taurus pistol and five matching rounds of ammunition as well as a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be narcotics.

Both persons are in custody assisting with the investigation.
