Sharmila Inderjali and Maryanna Lionel, who are on trial after allegedly offering a policeman $4 million in cash to release the accused in the murder of Number 70 Village carpenter Faiyaz Narinedatt, were yesterday both called upon to lead a defence to the charge against them.
It is alleged that the two women corruptly offered $4 million to Detective Sergeant Kamal Pitamal on November 19th, 2016, at Eve Leary, to forego charges against the suspects in custody for the murder as well as Marcus Bisram, who was overseas and wanted by local authorities in connection with the crime. Bisram is Inderjali’s son.
At a hearing yesterday, city magistrate Leron Daly announced that the two women would be called upon to lead a defence to the charge based on the evidence led during the trial.
In reaching her decision Magistrate Daly noted that she relied heavily on the evidence of Sergeant Pitamal and also on the evidence given by Lionel. The matter was subsequently adjourned until January 30th.
