‘Sharky’ remanded over Craig murder, armed robbery allegations

Wayne Anthony Chester, called ‘Sharky’, of 236 Section C, Block Y, Diamond Housing Scheme, was yesterday charged with the 2017 murder of Purcell Moore at Craig Village, East Bank Demerara.

Chester, 22, who was unrepresented, was not required to plead to the charge when it was read to him by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The accused was subsequently read five other charges in another city court.

It was also alleged that on January 6, 2019, at Conciliation Drive, Tucville, Georgetown, while being in the company of another and being armed with an unlicensed gun, Chester robbed Bowen Cromwell of $512,600 in cash and jewellery. On the same date and at the same place, he also allegedly damaged two car parts, valued at a total of $85,000, which belonged to Cromwell.

Chester was also charged with discharging a loaded firearm with intent to wound Cromwell,  having a pistol in his possession without being the holder of a firearm licence, and being in possession of unlicensed ammunition.

Chester pleaded not guilty to the five charges, which were read to him by Magistrate Faith McGusty at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

The prosecutors on the matters objected to bail being granted to the accused. He was remanded to jail until January 30, 2019, when the matters will be called again.
