Four in hospital after speeding bus overturns on Homestretch Ave

Four persons have been admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital after the  driver lost control of the minibus they were travelling in and it turned over and spun several times before coming to a halt on Homestretch Avenue last night.

Around 9:30 pm, minibus BWW 4714 which traverses Route 41, crashed on Homestretch Avenue, north of D’ Urban Park.

According to a passenger who was in the front seat at the time, the bus was travelling at a fast rate west on Homestretch Avenue when it started swaying from left to right before turning over.

“I was in the front seat. To me the driver lose control of the vehicle and the bus start washing to the left, to the right and left and eventually it toppled over and start spin and spin. Then the bus stop and I push out the windscreen and come out and everybody in the back was hollering. I deh in the bus and it going round and round and round and I said if this vehicle only knock into a truck or car while it tumbling I woulda been a dead man,” the passenger related.

As the bus was spinning out of control, four passengers were flung  through the shattered windows and onto the roadway.

When Stabroek News visited the scene last night a crowd was on the roadway watching on while numerous police ranks were also on the site assisting. Shortly after the accident the paramedics arrived and rushed four persons to the Georgetown Public Hospital. They are said to be in stable conditions.

According to other eyewitnesses, the vehicle did not suffer from a blowout nor did the bus collide with any vehicle or objects before turning turtle. Persons on the scene also reported seeing empty Guinness bottles in the bus.
