Illegal firearm lands juvenile in custody

A juvenile is in police custody in Linden since Wednesday, after he directed ranks to an abandoned house in McKenzie where he had hidden an unlicensed firearm.

Police Commander Linden Lord said that acting on intelligence gathered, ranks went to the home of the 15-year old and confronted him in the presence of his aunt.

According to the commander, the suspect who denied being in possession of the firearm was taken into police custody accompanied by his aunt.

While in custody, police said the teen admitted to having an illegal firearm, which he informed the ranks, he stole from a bond on the West Coast of Demerara.

Upon his admission to the police, the teen took the ranks to the abandoned house where they found the gun in a non-functioning gas stove.

A file was prepared and sent to DPP for legal advice.

 The juvenile remains in custody.
