Cop in cocaine buying probe reassigned

An Assistant Superintendent of Police, who is currently the subject of a criminal probe after reportedly being robbed during a drug deal, remains on duty but has been relocated from his original posting, Commissioner of Police Leslie James said on Friday.

“He has since been removed from his original post and that matter is still under investigation,” James told reporters at a press conference.

While few details have been released about the case, it has been alleged that the officer was attacked and robbed while he was allegedly purchasing a large quantity of cocaine sometime last month at an East Coast Demerara village. Among the items he was reported to have been robbed of were his licensed firearm and a quantity of gold jewellery.
