An East Canje, Berbice hire car driver is on the run after he allegedly attempted to rape a teenager who was a passenger in his car sometime last Friday morning.
Stabroek News has confirmed with sources in B Division that an investigation has been launched and that investigators are on the hunt for the suspect.
According to a police source, it was reported that on Friday, the high school student, 13, boarded the driver’s car en route to her school. According to the report, the man then suddenly began to touch the student and ripped her uniform in the process.
Stabroek News was told that in an effort to escape, the student jumped from the moving car. She was picked up by a passing car which took her to the police station. Her parents were contacted and she was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. The police have launched an investigation while they continue to hunt for the accused.
