Trial of Gold Board clerks accused of fraud set

The trial of Rosanna Ramnarine and Deborah Forbes, former employees of the Guyana Gold Board (GGB) who are accused of defrauding the agency, is slated to begin next month.

It is alleged that Ramnarine, of Lot 46 Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara, and Forbes, of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara, between January 1, 2017 and February 28, 2017, at the GGB, located at Lot 68 Brickdam, Georgetown, being employed as clerks or servants, willfully and with intent to defraud, falsified a document in possession of the GGB; that is to say, payment invoice #80230, dated January 24, 2017.

It is further alleged that the defendants, between the same dates and at the same place, being employed as clerks or servants, stole $436,409 in the possession and power of the GGB, their employer.

Finally, it is alleged that the duo willfully and with the intent to defraud, falsified a document in possession of the GGB, that is to say, payment invoice #80230, purporting to show that Clinton Alphonso received a payment of $436,409, on January 24, 2017.

The courtroom of Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, heard on Friday that the case file in relation to the matters were complete.

The matter was later adjourned until February 21, when the trial is expected to commence.
