Police in Linden are probing the discovery of a human skull found in the vicinity of the Wismar-Mackenzie Bridge.

The discovery was made on Thursday afternoon.

Commander of ‘E’ Division Linden Lord told Stabroek News that the discovery was made on the foreshore of the Demerara River by a man, who alerted police at the Mackenzie Police Station.

Lord said the scene was visited and the skull, , which has a crack measuring approximately 4 inches at the top, was retrieved by ranks of the Criminal Investigation Department. It was taken to the Linden Hospital Complex mortuary.

An examination of the skull is scheduled to be performed by government pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh on Monday. Lord said the police are hoping it will establish how long the skull had been severed from the body and whether it was that of a man or woman.
