Repairs to start this month on Linden to Lethem road – ministry

The Ministry of Natural Resources yesterday said that repair work will begin on the Linden to Lethem road this month.

In a statement, the ministry was responding to a report in yesterday’s Guyana Times headlined ‘Deteriorating section of Linden-Lethem Road frustrates drivers’.

The Ministry said it understands the frustration of the road users who utilise the roadway from the Mabura Police Station to Kurupukari Crossing and the delays and added expenses.

“We would like to take this time to inform those road users along with members of the general public, that the Ministry in conjunction with the Ministry of Public Infrastructure will conduct a road maintenance project beginning in this month of February.

“It is important to note that this area (Linden-Lethem) is one of many where rehabilitative road works were being carried out by the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission to improve the comfort, safety, and travelling experience of those working and living in the area. However, unkind weather conditions have posed …a great challenge that has impacted this work, resulting in an overall delay of delivery of service”, the ministry said.

It also cited the misuse of the road network as an issue that hinders development.
