Chinese national robbed by bandits at Diamond

Armed bandits on Tuesday evening attacked and robbed a Chinese national of an undisclosed amount of cash and valuables as he was about to enter his Diamond, East Bank Demerara premises.

Stabroek News understands that incident occurred around 8pm at the Block X, Diamond, EBD house which is occupied by the man and his family.

The Chinese national, whose identity remains unknown was injured during the attack. He sustained blows about his body including his head.

His brother reportedly owns and operates the Hua Supermarket which is situated next door to his house.

While details surrounding the incident remains sketchy, this newspaper understands that the man was about to enter his premises when he was pounced on by two bandits.

They demanded that he hand over the cash and valuables during which they beat him.

The duo subsequently made good their escape.

It is suspected that the men might have gained entry onto the premises by cutting open a section of a zinc fence.

This is not the first instance where a member of the family was robbed. In the past they were robbed on several occasions.

When this newspaper visited the scene yesterday the injured man’s brother refused to comment on the incident.
