The Mahaica-West Berbice, Region Five area will soon benefit from major infrastructural works, since a total of 44 projects from the Region Five 2019 budget were approved at the region’s tender board sitting.

Stabroek News was told that the first set of works for the year were awarded at the tender board sitting held on February 6.

On Monday, a signing ceremony was hosted by Region Five’s Regional Executive Officer, Ovid Morrison at the RDC Boardroom, where a total of twenty-seven contractors affixed their signatures to the contracts  to undertake projects which include road works, rehabilitation and maintenance of health facilities and school buildings and drainage and irrigation works  among others.

Morrison during his brief remarks encouraged all contractors to adhere to the clause of the contract which states that 20% of the workforce must be employed from the communities in which the projects are being executed.

 Some of the major works in the education sector in the region will be the construction of concrete tarmacs at the Woodley Park Primary School, Woodley Park Secondary School and the  No. 8 Secondary School.

The works are expected to commence in a matter of days.
