The Guyana Police Force yesterday arrested 13 persons and seized a quantity of narcotics after a three-hour cordon and search operation at the Stabroek Market and its environs.

Just around 10 am yesterday, ranks from ‘A’ Division, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Headquarters, the Canine Department, the Crime Lab, the Tactical Services Unit, the Firearms Section, and the Narcotics Branch, among others, swarmed the Stabroek Market, the Ferry Stelling and the Routes 31, 32, 40, 41 and 44 bus parks.

According to a statement from the Guyana Police Force, 128 grammes of marijuana seeds, 561 grammes of cannabis, and a quantity of small-sized Ziploc bags were found, while 13 persons were arrested. The contents of the Ziploc bags were not revealed.

Of the 13 arrested, three have been detained for narcotics possession, while the others are being held for questioning in relation to several offences.
