Key section of GPHC loses power after electrical problem

A section of the Georgetown Public Hospital this morning suffered a power cut following an electrical problem. Power was finally restored around 1 pm.

Smoke was seen issuing from a room this morning with electrical components.

Stabroek News was told that the event occurred sometime around 8 am.

Members of the Guyana Fire Service were seen at the hospital this morning.

The hospital’s Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Accident and Emergency Department, the recovery department, specialist clinics and the pharmacy were affected.

Patients were informed that they would be able to engage with their doctors but were asked to be patient since the power outage had affected the delivery of service.

Patients who were scheduled to do tests were informed that that would not be possible until power is restored.
