Six men held in Berbice after two ganja busts

The parcels of cannabis found in the motorcar intercepted at the Berbice Bridge.

Six men are currently in police custody after being apprehended for the possession of narcotics in Berbice.

In a statement last night, police said the men were arrested in two operations at the Police checkpoint on the eastern end of the Berbice Bridge Access Road and New Amsterdam. The men were found with almost 16 kilogrammes of compressed cannabis.

In the first bust, ranks at around 4 pm, intercepted a hire car at the Police Checkpoint on the eastern end of the Berbice Bridge Access Road where they conducted a search on the driver and three passengers and found nothing. However, a further search on a speaker box that was in the trunk revealed ten parcels of cannabis with a weight of 4,593 grams.

An hour and a half later another hire car was intercepted in New Amsterdam and two large parcels of cannabis were found in the truck; the prohibited substance weighed 11 kilogrammes.
