Canefield woman in intensive care after being hit on No. 19 road

A Canefield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice woman is now a patient at the New Amsterdam Public Hospital after she was struck by the tray of a truck on the Number 19 Public Road on Thursday evening.

The woman, Dhanrajie Tulsie, 42, of Lot 1157 New Area Canefield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice, is presently a patient in the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit.

Sunday Stabroek was told that the woman suffered a fractured rib and other injuries about her body.

According to information gathered, the truck, GTT 7939, was proceeding at a normal rate of speed, east on the northern lane of the Public Road along the Hermitage Village, located along the popular Number 19 stretch on the Corentyne.

However, Tulsie was reportedly standing on the northern foot path next to a parked car, PKK 9415.

Sunday Stabroek was told that as the truck approached, Tulsie reportedly moved from where she was standing and it was then that she was struck by the left side of the truck’s tray.

As a result, she was hit into the parked car, breaking the right side rear view mirror in the process, after which she fell to the public road. She was picked up and rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where she was admitted.

Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, who is from Kilcoy, Corentyne, is presently in police custody assisting with the investigation.

This publication was told that a breathalyser test was administered and it showed that the driver had not been drinking.
