Abram Zuil secondary for state-of-the-art upgrade

The Abram Zuil Secondary School on the Essequibo Coast is to be rebuilt as a state-of-the-art facility for 750 students, the Department of Public Information (DPI) reported yesterday.

“We will have our consultation with the parents and teachers to let them know what is the way forward,” Regional Education Officer (ag), Region Two, Nicola Matthews was quoted as saying in the report, while noting that the signing for the design and mobilisation of the project will occur by September.

The initial site visit for the design and construction of the new Abram Zuil Secondary School was done in early April, during which time the Regional Executive Officer, the Regional Engineer, and representatives of the Department of Education and school met with the architect, structural engineer and consultant representative, who will be in charge of the school’s reconstruction.

According to the DPI report, following the award by the National Tender Board, the school’s construction will last for 12 months.

Students displaced due to construction will be housed at the Johanna Cecilia Secondary School, where facilities will be put in place to accommodate them using some of the region’s 2019 budget.
