Colonel Kester Craig, acting Director-General of the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), yesterday said the current dry weather situation is being monitored across the country.

Speaking to Stabroek News via telephone, Craig explained that the CDC is monitoring every region but particular focus is being placed on Region Nine.

“We are gathering data presently. We have not received any reports of adverse impact from the regions but we are monitoring it,” he said.

He also noted that last Thursday the CDC responded to a request for water from residents of Circuit Ville, at Timehri.

The CDC, in a Facebook post, said it partnered with the Timehri Fire Service to distribute the much-needed water.

In a previous post, the CDC said it had received reports from residents of limited water supply and as a result officers were deployed to the area for an assessment. According to the CDC, Spring Creek, which is the residents’ main source for drinking, bathing and washing, has stopped flowing and approximately 300 residents were affected as a result.

Several tanks of water were taken into the area and distributed to the residents.

Craig pointed out that the CDC has been collaborating with the regions, which are equipped to deal with the situation. However, he noted that if the regions are unable to handle the situation, the CDC will mobilise the assistance and move into the affected communities.
