Man dies after being hit by car along Corentyne highway -driver held

A resident of Number 11 Village, Corentyne, yesterday lost his life, after he was struck by a car along the Corentyne highway, while attempting to cross.

Dead is Stanley Bronne, 30, of Lot 8 Number 11 Village, Corentyne.

According to information gathered, a car, bearing licence plate PTT 8022, was proceeding west along the southern carriageway, which Bronne was reportedly attempting to cross the road from behind a parked lorry.

The police, in a statement to the press yesterday, noted that the driver of the car, who is from Block X Diamond Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, has since claimed that he immediately swerved south to avoid a collision with Bronne. However, the right side of the front of his vehicle came into contact with Bronne, who was then flipped onto the car’s windscreen. He then fell to the public road.

The man, who was rushed to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital in an unconsciousness state, succumbed while receiving medical attention.

According to the police, the driver of the car, who passed a breathalyser test, is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
