Non-functioning pumps partly to blame for flooding – M&CC

Entrance to this pharmacy located on Avenue of the Republic was impossible around noon yesterday as the entire area was inundated.

After a night of heavy rainfall, sections of the city experienced flooding, the Mayor and City Council (M&CC) stated yesterday.

In a statement, the council related that two of the municipal pumps have not been functioning. These are namely, the J.P Santos and Forestry pumps.

While the M&CC did not state what was the mechanical issue with the pumps, it was disclosed that the pumps became inoperable due to garbage in the waterways.

However, in an effort to alleviate the residents’ burden of flooded streets, pathways and yards, sluices were opened and monitored by attendants from the City Engineer’s Department at around 11am.
