Missing Berbice man drowned in Canje River

The body of an East Canje, Berbice man who went missing on Monday, was discovered on Wednesday morning in the Canje River, in close proximity to the riverbank.

Dead is Parbhudiyal Mohan, also known as “Panna”, 52, of Lot 44 Betsy Ground Village, East Canje, Berbice.

According to information gathered, the man would head several times a day, every day, to the river to swim and perform devotional works. However, after he failed to return home on Monday, a search was launched and a missing person’s report was filed at the Reliance Police Station.

Mohan’s body, which was said to have no visible marks of violence, was discovered on Wednesday minutes after 6 am. A post-mortem examination was done yesterday which revealed that he died from drowning.  Stabroek News confirmed with the man’s relatives that he did know how to swim.

The father of two was laid to rest yesterday at a cemetery located in Reliance Village, East Canje, Berbice.
