The residents of Constituency 11 in Georgetown – which includes La Penitence and Alexander Village – will soon be the beneficiaries of an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) hub as part of an effort to address issues affecting the respective communities in the constituency.

According to a Department of Public Information (DPI) release, areas in this constituency include, North East La Penitence, East La Penitence, Alexander Village, Yarrow Dam, Riverview, a section of Callender Street and Independence Boulevard.

Councillor for the constituency, Yvonne Ferguson, disclosed that a youth club, ‘Influential Millennium’ has been formed to address issues confronting youths in the constituency. It facilitates vocational training and distribution of bursary grants to children who sat the National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) and the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) examination.

There have also been donations of laptop computers and bicycles to several students to assist them in completing their assignments and attending school daily.

The Councillor also stated that her priorities include high school dropouts, teenage pregnancy, infrastructural development and security. She highlighted security as one of the major issues the constituency faces and as Councillor, she has encouraged residents to “be their neighbours’ keeper.” So far, several criminals have been caught and handed over to the police and this, Ferguson said, has led to a reduction in crime in these areas.

Ferguson also plans to invest funds into lighting, road repair, and drainage and irrigation when she receives a $5 million grant from the Mayor and City Council, the DPI release added.
