Man refused bail on break and enter charge

A 26-year-old father of two was refused bail at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, after the court heard that the phone he was accused of stealing was found on his person.

Mark Griffith was refused bail by Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus, after he denied an allegation that he, on June 10, at Bartica broke and entered the building of Sion Edwards and stole a cellphone valued at $101,000.

Unrepresented, Griffith pleaded not guilty after being read the charge. He also told the court that he was arrested before for attempted murder but the matter was settled.

Police prosecutor Adduni Inniss objected to bail being granted given that the cellphone was recovered on Griffith. Griffith was refused bail and the matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrate’s Court, where it will be heard on June 21.
