Corentyne student busted with cannabis

A male Corentyne student was busted with 10 grammes of cannabis by a teacher on Wednesday.

According to information gathered, a security guard at the school had misplaced his phone which resulted in search being conducted. Stabroek News was told that during the search, a student, 13, was observed acting in a suspicious manner. He was seen removing a black bulky plastic bag from his haversack and attempting to discard it.  The teacher then picked up the plastic bag, which when inspected, was found to contain a quantity of seeds, leaves and stems suspected to be cannabis. The teen was held for questioning on Wednesday has since been released into a relative’s care.

A police source told this publication that the teen has since denied having knowledge of the item and has also refused to reveal where he would have gotten the item from.

An investigation is ongoing.
