In recent days several policemen have spoken anonymously to this newspaper about corruption associated with a senior policeman who was previously stationed in Berbice but is now assigned to Georgetown.

The detail provided by the policemen has been credible and paints a stark picture about the extent of corruption in the area.

Given the widespread graft that has been evident in the force over the years and the difficulty in breaching the wall of silence that usually sheaths it, the willingness of these policemen to provide chapter and verse should be taken seriously.

In light of the gravity of the allegations and the fact that the force is meant to be undergoing significant reforms, it behoves President Granger to determine how the complaints of these policemen can be recorded and investigated.
