Woman, new partner stabbed by ex in Hururu Mission attack

Police in ‘E’ Division (Kwakwani/ Linden) are still on the hunt for a Hururu Mission, Berbice River man, who stabbed his ex-girlfriend and her new partner, Commander Linden Lord has said.

Lord told Stabroek News that checks are currently being made for the suspect by ranks in the area.

On Wednesday, police said Dally Gobin, 48, and her partner, Learmond Smith, 40, were consuming alcohol at the former’s residence at Hururu Mission, Upper Berbice River.

Police said during the course of the day, the suspect, who has been identified as Gilbert Thomas, visited the residence and started an argument with Gobin.

During the argument, Thomas, who was armed with a knife, allegedly stabbed Gobin and Smith.

Gobin was stabbed in the region of her chest, while Smith, police, said was stabbed twice at both sides of his chest.

Following the attack, Gobin and Smith were rushed to Kwakwani Hospital for medical attention and later transferred to the Linden Hospital Complex where they were both treated and admitted.

Lord said that while both Gobin and Smith remain in the hospital, each is regarded as being in a stable condition.

Smith is expected to be discharged today, while Gobin will be kept for observation due to the more severe nature of her injuries.

Police investigators have managed to obtain statements from the victims.
