Brian Mohan was yesterday committed to stand trial for the 2015 murder of Festival City resident Christopher Wharton, who was shot execution-style while sitting on the stairs of his home.

Mohan, also known as ‘Abdool,’ was committed upon the conclusion of a preliminary inquiry into the charge, which states that on November 18th, 2015, he murdered Wharton, also known as ‘Taps’.

Senior Magistrate Leron Daly, who conducted the inquiry, ruled that a prima facie case was made out against Mohan.

She then asked if he wished to say anything or call any witnesses and his attorney, Stanley Moore, related to the court that they will reserve that right for the High Court.

Mohan was subsequently committed to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes. Mohan will remain on remand until that time.

On November 23rd, 2015, Rickford Jones, of Lot 3093 North Ruimveldt, was charged with Wharton’s murder. That matter is currently before Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

It was previously reported that Wharton was shot execution-style on the stairs of his North Ruimveldt home in what police believed to be a drug-related crime.

Mohan also faces two other charges for allegedly having a .32 Taurus pistol as well as 10 live matching rounds without being the holder of a firearm licence.

These matters are expected to commence before Magistrate Daly on October 2nd.
