Oil and gas services company undertakes back to school drives for rural communities

A locally owned and operated oil and gas support services company, recently organised back to school drives to prepare children of rural communities for their return to school this week.

In a press release, Century Tamara Energy Services (CTES), which is in its second year of operation here, said that in a back to school drive last Saturday, it deployed two teams to the communities to distribute school supplies inclusive of book bags and classroom stationery.

The CTES teams visited the Betsy Ground Primary School and McGowan Primary School in Berbice and the Fort Island Primary School and surrounding villages in Essequibo. The teams presented the items to just over 200 youths, as parents, teachers and village residents also showed up to show their support.

According to the release, John Quelch, a representative of the organisation, stated that the annual mission is a demonstration of the company’s support for community strengthening and youth development, especially in the rustic and less supported areas of Guyana. “We are pleased and honoured to be giving back to our communities in a way that empowers and strengthens our youth in a productive way, and builds their capacity for education at such an early stage in their lives,” he was quoted as saying.
