(Jamaica Gleaner) The St Mary police made a massive ganja seizure on Friday evening after raiding premises in the Boscobel area in the parish.
The lawmen recovered 289 plastic bags loaded with packages of compressed ganja, weighing over 7,000 pounds, which they say appeared ready for export.
The police have put the street value of the find at approximately $36 million.
No one was arrested during the operation.
“Sometime after five o’clock today (Friday), August 23, the police, acting on intelligence, went to the Boscobel area and conducted operational activities. During the process, a storage area was found and a large quantity of compressed ganja that appeared to be ready for export was recovered in the process,” Superinten-dent in charge of St Mary, Bobette Morgan-Simpson reported.
Quizzed about the possibility of a link to the drugs-for-guns trade, the superintendent said she could not speak to that as there was no evidence to suggest that.
The ganja haul was removed to police Area Two headquarters in Tower Isle, St Mary, where it was checked before it was sent to Kingston.
