Trinidad community fixes their own terrible roads

Fyzabad residents took up the onus of repairing the road themselves

(Trinidad Express) Frustrated at the slow pace of development and the terrible road conditions within their community, Fyzabad residents took up the onus of repairing the road themselves.

The residents responded to a request by Fyzabad MP Dr Lackram Bodoe following numerous requests to the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Ministry of Public Utilities.

In a media release, Bodoe said he was grateful to businessman Deolal Rajkumar for his generous donations to the community in making the road repair possible.

Bodoe said he was able to secure donations through local contractors to repair the Oropouche main road after it was littered with massive potholes throughout the entire roadway.

“These potholes were causing unnecessary traffic during the day as cars had to come to a near stop before driving over the potholes. In other areas the roadway had been turned into a one way as the size of some of the potholes were too big for vehicles to drive over without causing damage to vehicles,” he said.

The road patching exercise began on Tuesday morning, he said, and saw approximately nine locations being repaired.

He said, “It is also important to note that several complaints and requests were sent to the Ministry of Works and Transport and the Ministry of Public Utilities, pleading for the repairs as several motorists’ vehicles were damaged as a result of these pot holes.”

Bodoe said the damages varied from damaged rims and tyres to suspension damages, all of which had to be repaired by the residents themselves.

And he appealed to the relevant authorities to repair the remainder of the roadway.
