Trinidad: Disfigured dad charged with bedroom murder of wife

(Trinidad Express) Dominic Guevarra who survived a shotgun attack which killed his wife a year ago, has been charged with her murder.

Police were waiting for him to sufficiently recover before approaching him for a statement on what he knew about how his wife was killed.

He was discharged from hospital on Monday and taken into the custody of homicide offices.

He was kept at the St Joseph Police Station until Wednesday, when the Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard instructed that he be charged with the murder.

Guevarra survived the blast of a 12 gauge shotgun at close range which caused massive injuries to his mouth, jaw and nose on February 26, 2018.

His wife, Margaret Ragoobar-Guevarra, was also a victim in the shooting but she bled to death on the floor of the couple’s bedroom at their family’s home at Jarasingh Village, Sangre Grande.

Guevarra underwent life-saving surgery and had been warded at the Port of Spain General Hospital, being fed a liquid diet.

Police officers had been checking often on Guevarra, who been communicating by writing and using hand signals.

The Express was told that Guevarra did not respond when the murder charge was read to him.

He will appear in court on Thursday.
